Clinical Observation of Patients in the ICU Used by Computerized Data

Abstract
Intensive care often means a combination of recovery room service and intensive therapy. Intensive care, especially respiratory care is an important part of the responsibility of the anesthesiologist.
A total of 1, 780 cases were admitted in ICU of Chung-Ang University Hospital from 1981 to 1985. These were analyzed statistically according to yearly numbers, sex, age, admission days, department, respiratory support and therapeutic results used by computerized data.
The results were as follows:
1) ICU admission ratio was 50% of total hospitalizing patients, but ICU is occupied about 4% of hospitalizing bed capacity.
2) The patients from 20 to 59 years old were most common, and more than half cases were male.
3) About 63% of patients were admitted for 1 to 4 days.
4) The patients of the department of internal medicine and neurosurgery were 40% and 31.8%.
5) The ratio of the operative versus nonoperative patients is 61.6% to 38.4%.
6) The routes of admission were emergency room(57.5%), ward (22.6%) and operating room(18. 8%).
7) The ratios of excellent and good results were 66.8% worse results were 17.1% and mortality rate was 15.9% Discharge routes according to therapy were ward(65.4%), home (15.5%) and corpse room(14.5%).
8) 1,329 patients were supplied oxygen including simple oxygen equipment, Ambu and
ventilator, but more higher mortality rate in the case of Ambu or ventilator applied than spontaneous respiration.
